November/December 2003

Welcome to the Christmas edition of the newsletter. Having got over Halloween  and painting witches and bats it's on to another  busy time of year for  face painters with all sorts of activities ranging from festive children's parties to corporate Christmas events. Put away the black and grey paints, and out with the reds, greens and whites for holly, snowmen and Christmas  trees!  There's a couple of ideas for you to try out  below.

The website is going well with hundreds of you visiting each week. If you have anything you would like to see there, or any pictures of your work you would like published, let us know via our  e-mail which is mail@facepaintingdesigns.co.uk
We will be adding to and updating the site on a regular basis, at the moment we're  still trying to finish the content we have  planned.

Snow Scenes and  how not to end up looking like a clown!
This was brought up a  few months ago whilst discussing ideas for Christmas faces. Obviously snow is white and if you painted the whole face white the end result would be rather clown-like. Another drawback with the whole white background is that you can't add snowflakes and snowmen etc. The trick here is to use either a very light blue or even grey to portray a sense of cold to the base layer.
On top of this base layer you can now compose the scene's elements and use the white  to good effect for snowmen, snow flakes, mistletoe and the like. A silver glitter dust over the background if applied carefully can give a very good impression of falling  snowflakes.

Here's a couple of Christmas scenes/pictures given to us by Kath at Fizogg ( http://www.fizogg.co.uk )

Here's a few  simplefestive designs  that can be used anywhere - on the cheeks or arms - remember you don't have to paint whole faces all of the time. A temporary tattoo using face paints on the arm can be just the right effect if someone's going out to a party or school disco. (Adults like the idea of temporary tattoos as well)
